Top Eats!

When we get to go on vacation I spend quite a LONG time researching places to eat, I mean that is the most important thing right?!! So today for you I have listed out of favorite places in Savannah and Charleston!! In no order by the way!

* The Old Pink House, Savannah!

I mean we loved this place because the food was out of this world but also because this building was built in the 1700s! The Declaration of Independence was read aloud from the steps of this home. In the basement is the coolest bar complete with piano player and we loved everything about it! To learn more click HERE

You guys first off 2 words- Charleston Nasty! Yup that my friends is this glorious biscuit I had for lunch one day! Everything about this place was so homey and so good! Get there early the wait is NO JOKE

No, not just because I have seen this place on TV did we love it but because it was fresh, fast and delish! The Lobster Roll was great and the Oysters super fresh!! Check it out HERE

* Hall's Chophouse, Charleston
If you want a purely amazing steak set in an old style steakhouse staple this is the place for you! This is quite the Charleston staple and we really enjoyed our meal and the wine selection here! Make sure you have a reservation thats for sure! Click HERE to explore the menu!

First of all look how stunning this location is! Second a place named by Bon Appetit as restaurant of the year and a highly awarded in house chef..... Yes, Yes, and Yes! This place is TOP notch... add it to your list! HERE to learn more!

Tybee Island

Let me start this day off by saying the only thing that would have made Tybee Island better would be if we have had more time! We didn't have but 4 hours or so because this night was the formal awards banquet for Farmers Insurance. But Matt and I both agree that this day was just great. It really was a great day!

Our first stop was Fort Pulaski which opened in 1847!! This fort saw battles during the Civil War and most people say that this location is very haunted today. The structure itself is incredible for the time but we also learned that it was built by slaves which sadly wasn't surprising.

So much of the Fort is as it was all those years ago and it is very eerie. We got there as soon as it opened so we were able to really be alone for most of our tour.

This is the Fort Prison below and just imagine what all these walls have seen. And from what we saw and learned the prison living conditions were basically the same as the rest of the Soldiers living quarters... which were not very good.

There is a moat around the entire fort and then it is surrounded was swamp-land and the ocean! But sadly this fort is currently closed it was very badly damaged by the hurricane and most of the fort it still under water. I can't believe we were literally there 1 week before all this happened!

Next up we headed to the Historic Tybee Island Light House Museum which was CLOSED that day! wah wah! I was so sad, I have never been in a light house but we did get to marvel it from afar!

Tybee Island is so small and quaint and in fact this is where they filmed Dear John, The Last Song and next years Baywatch movie with the Rock! SO that was neat to imagine!

I don't get to see the ocean very often so I was beyond thrilled to get my feet in as Matt and I strolled along the shore line for a little bit! The homes lining the beach are so cute and we talked about how nice it would be to come back and rent a house here!

I see why this place was used in so many movies because it really looks like a movie set....

GATORS! I saw real live GATORS! They didn't move a muscle they were all literally in sun tan mode.

We had lunch at the cute Crab Shack on Tybee that sits on the water and houses the Gators! This place was kitchy and fun and its true you can eat in your bare feet!

After lunch we walked the cute boardwalk to the pier and had ice cream on the little main street before heading back to Savannah!

We both highly recommend Tybee Island! It seems like the perfect vacation destination and it is only 45 minutes from downtown Savannah!!!

Savannah

Today I am going to share with you all 2 of my favorite locations in Savannah, it truly is like stepping back in time depending on where you are. And one thing I didn't realize is how tropical it is, I know.. it is on the coast in the South but at times I felt like I could be in Mexico. It was like being in a completely different country that is for sure!

Sunday while Matt was golfing I went to visit the Historic Wormsloe Plantation Ruins and I had no idea how breathtaking it would be in person.

 And yes, this famous row of trees have been in many movies including Forest Gump! I went early, as soon as it opened so I was lucky enough to get some good pictures without cars.

 I mean can't you just imagine horses, buggies, old cars headed down this path? I always like to take time where I am to really imagine what it was like "way back when" it just amazes me so much.

 Something I learned is that all the Spanish Moss hanging from the trees is neither Spanish nor is it actually moss. It is actually related to the Pineapple and it isn't attached to the trees but rather uses the trees as a base to hang onto to capture the water. It's breathtaking isn't it?

 This right here is the actual ruins of one of the first plantations in the South, Wormsloe and this was built in 1702 and in fact the graves of the family are also located here. It was so early I was literally the only person in this state park, the hike to this location was only about 1/2 a mile but it was so silent I could here everything. I imagine that back in 1702 it was like a jungle and at times could be very scary, especially at night.

 Right off the edge of this jungle/forrest land is swamp........

 I was hoping to see some gators but I didn't see any, I did see some deer walking thru the trees though.

 About another 1/2 mile from the ruins is a settlement that was built to show what life was like back in the 1700s and it was built as accurately as we know today. We are truly lucky, I swear I could never live back then.

 Wormsloe was really magical and it was so great to step back in time!!! Next up you guys is the very famous Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah which was also a literal walk thru history...........

 Some of the graves date back to the late 1700s all the way thru today and the way the moss hung from the trees surrounding the graves is 1 part Magical and 1 part Creepy.... which makes this place so amazing!

 This is truly a place that you can just imagine the souls climbing out at night to take a walk around the cemetery. This place is also famous because parts of the Clint Eastwood movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil where filmed here.

 I am quite proud of some of my pictures.... my budding photographer side of me loved Savannah!!

Savannah, You're Haunted!

Leading up to our trip to the South I... of course read a lot and did research on 2 main topics: Slavery and Hauntings! I wanted the real back stories of the places we were going to see before I went and I am so glad I did! We arrived to Savannah late Saturday night and immediately went to do a haunted tour....

 This home is one of the most haunted in the country..... this has been featured on The Travel Channel, Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures. When you have a house from the 1700s, that housed slaves, deaths, wars and hundreds of years.. I mean how could you not? One instance is when the lady of the home realized her husband was sleeping with a slave she killed herself and then that slave hung herself in the home as well. This is documented deaths and several times these shows caught EVP's of the slave saying she was raped. It's insane!

 I was so excited for this and Matt and I did LOVE the tour but sadly 6 guests on our tour were so drunk and rowdy that they almost got escorted out and that really ruined the time I had. I believe in this and wanted to take it serious and these people made that near impossible.

 This is the original mirror from the 1700s that several paranormal shows have caught pictures and light anomalies in. Smile Matty....

 I am 99% sure that this picture I took was a light distortion but this is in the basement which is the most haunted place in the home. A former resident performed autopsies in this basement and used it has a funeral parlor for sometime. But you never know, maybe this picture IS in fact something.

and here is the story. A while (long time ago) back a very distinguish guest stayed in this home and he experienced a night full of paranormal activity and he actually LOVED it! He then sketched the home over the weekend and went back home to California. This guest then had this home re-built exactly in this "theme park" he was building...... yes, you guessed it Walt Disney himself!! This home is the real Haunted Mansion that Walk stayed in and that inspired him! SOOO cool!

With Farmers Insurance we took a historic Mansion tour by trolley one day and I LOVED this home! This was a very famous home that also has the carriage/slave house still in tact. And we got to take a private tour...

Can you just picture 10 slaves in this room over the open fire making dinner for large parties? This home is also said to be very much haunted and I loved stepping back into time.

 But this one picture is my FAVORITE this right here is a ceiling and is the largest preserved Haint Blue paint discovered in the world. Haint plaint was made with indigo and it is what slaves would paint their doors and ceilings with to ward off evil spirits and this came from Africa where these slaves were taken from. I was in awe standing under this ......
