The Free State of Jones

I love History and I love learning things I had no idea about before...... and I think that if schools taught REAL stories, the real stories behind the books then I would of done a whole heck of a lot better in school. (for real) This Free State of Jones seems like a really big deal but yet it took a movie to teach me.
I was so excited to see this movie about a civil war deserter who wanted to fight for real issues, not cotton. Newton Knight wanted everyone to be equal, he didn't want the government to take what was yours or tell you what to do. (And that is just the bare bones jest of this)
So he created a FREE state of Jones, literally. The true story is the best part of this movie because it is incredible. How did it translate to film?? Slowly, thats how. This movie was very long and very slow but my enjoyment of the story kept me into it. Honestly this is a renter but please rent this. Watch it with your High Schoolers and you will all learn and be entertained. Matthew was amazing and when they show you what Newton Knight really looked like the resemblance is amazing. I am glad I saw this but sadly it wasn't as good as it could have been.

Ups and Downs

2015 was a weird year, as I was looking back to make this post I loved seeing all the fun things we got to do. I loved seeing all the experiences we shared with all our family and friends who came to stay with us this year. But, this year was also filled with unbelievable heartbreak. I do feel like I am leaving 2015 a little more beaten down than what I was this time last year.
I am a part of a blogger group on Facebook and yesterday the post/roll call was for everyone to share what their word of 2016 would be and why. I was surprised when one word immediately popped into my head
HOPE
That word is a double edge sword it can bring great happiness or ultimate disappointment but HOPE is my word. Hope that 2016 will be better, that 2016 will be the year that things will happen for us. HOPE for a baby, HOPE that I will finish Real Estate school and start a career, HOPE that our finances will fall into place.... and I could go on and on!

But on this last day of 2015 let's look back at a few memories that stand out.....

2015 was the year that we bought a home in Colorado! The process may have been the worst but the outcome is the best.
2015 was the year that we went to a Rockies Game, Nuggets game (vs Thunder) and a Broncos game! We love sporting events and hopefully this year we will go to more!
This was the year that I went White Water rafting for the first time in like 18 years!!!
This year was the year that my Oma came to see me!! She also took her first plane ride in over 25 years! Those memories will last a lifetime for us all.
This was also the year that I actually got to cross 2 things off of my Bucket List:
1. Stay the night at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park! Thanks Becky's!!!
 2. Visit Alcatraz Island!
2015 also brought immeasurable loss, my Granddad. I still do not think I have allowed myself to grieve properly, I can't think about it. What he was in my life's story is irreplaceable. There is NOT one day that I do not miss him.
This year was also the year that we learned that we will be saying Goodbye to one of our children soon, Oscar. Somedays Oscar acts so normal we think he will be around for quite awhile longer but other days are bad and we think the time might be near. But right now we are giving him all the love you can imagine.
This isn't the only year we have been trying to conceive, that started in 2014 and I can't believe another whole year has passed for us and we were not able to make a baby. This has consumed my life, the doctors visits, ultrasounds, blood work, shots, IUI.... you name it. This picture below sums up most of 2015.

Well 2015 you were Grand at times and Horrific at times, I am not really sad to see you go. I need to be filled with Hope about what 2016 will bring instead of scared.
Happy New Year friends thanks for sharing in my life with me, the good and the bad! I love ya all!

Savage Thanksgiving!

This year was our first year to actually host anyone for Thanksgiving, in years past I have always made the WHOLE shebang for Matt and I but this year I got to feed my In-laws as well!
They flew in Wednesday and while Matt was still working we decided to have a little fun.......
I took them on a tour of Broncos stadium and we had a great time, it was cool to see a little "hubbub" around the stadium as they were getting ready for the Patriots! GO BRONCOS!
We gave my In-laws a true Colorado Thanksgiving by having a White Thanksgiving, and in fact it snowed all day which was kinda magical!
We also got to spot the deer out behind our house, which my father-in-law loved!
Oscar got a lot of extra loving but Thanksgiving was a little rough for him, he doesn't like commotion and so this little guy was lashing out a bit, it broke my heart.
This looks like a Christmas dinner doesn't it? ha! It's always nice to get to use the dining room and we all tried to eat extra slow since I cooked for like 6 hours and then it's done in 15 minutes!
Ok, ignore my face.... but..... we smoked our first Turkey, for 7 hours and all day I was so nervous because we have never done that before and behold..... it turned out AMAZING! Literally we were so excited but I swear best Turkey ever!
Before they left on Saturday we fit in some shopping, movies and we also went by Dove Valley the Broncos training facility since it is close to our house!
Oh... Oscar wanted me to show you all his new Winter coat, he loves it and its adorable!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I hope you all did too!!

What I'm Loving....

I thought I would share with you all things I am LOVIN on this Wednesday!!! And more specifically things I love that keep me organized and focused!!!!!!!
I tried out a different planner last year but I came back to my Erin Condren... they are just the right size and perfect for people who love to color code and use stickers! (yes, I am 33)
Second, I got this Blog Planner from Easy and I LOVE IT! It is so helpful and keeps me on track!
For me I need to be reading a book for fun to get away from things and then I am trying to get back into the habit of reading a quick devotional each day. It's good for the soul!
I love these fun water bottles and always have mine on my desk! Drink more water goes hand-in-hand to my becoming more healthy goal this year!
And of course you need a snazzy bag to get all these goodies to and from the office or your carpool!

I hope this list inspires you to organize and focus your life a little more.... it did me!
